Logging Into and Out of Desktop Agent

Introduction

Once you log into the Desktop Agent, you will remain logged in until you specifically log out of Desktop Agent, even if you log out of Synapse, or shut down the workstation.

Note:

Using the Desktop Agent, multiple users can be logged into a Synapse workstation at the same time, as long as users are running under different workstation login accounts.

For example, if you are running Synapse with the Desktop Agent and a switch to another login account on the workstation is made, the Desktop Agent logs you out of Synapse, disconnects from third-party applications, and starts a new user session with the different login account. You remain logged into Desktop Agent, even after the switch occurs to a different login account. When you switch back to a user that is logged into the Desktop Agent, the Desktop Agent will reconnect to its datasource.

Logging into Desktop Agent

Steps

  1. Right-click the Desktop Agent and select Log In...
  2. Do one of the following to log into Desktop Agent:

    Choose this option

    Use your Synapse user name and password.

    • Enter your credentials.
    • Click Log In.

    Use your current workstation windows login credentials.

    • Click Log in with Windows instead.

Logging Out of Desktop Agent

Steps

  1. Right-click the Desktop Agent and select Log Out...
  2. Click Yes.

Note:

  • When the Desktop Agent is shut down or disabled (for example, when it is exited or is switched to a different user), all third-party integrations are terminated.
  • When the Desktop Agent closes PowerScribe, a shutdown prompt may display, depending on user preferences.
  • You must dismiss any prompt before PowerScribe is terminated. Any open reports are first saved in the Drafts folder and then closed.
  • If PowerScribe displays a prompt when the Desktop Agent closes the application, this will prevent a switched user from running the Desktop Agent.

Results

When you log out of PowerScribe manually, the study is closed. When you shut down PowerScribe manually and a taskbar notification displays to indicate that PowerScribe did not terminate, wait approximately 10 seconds and repeat the shutdown process until PowerScribe shuts down.

If you terminate or log out of the Desktop Agent, wait until it is finished terminating before switching to another workstation user.
