Merging Two Studies

Introduction

Merging two study folders combines the study information, including images, into one folder. After the merge, Synapse moves the source study images to the destination folder and removes the source study folder. Synapse displays the relocated images with the destination study information.

The way in which Synapse merges Advanced Reporting (AR) studies might differ from non-AR studies.

Note:

  • If AIPF integration is enabled for your site and one of the studies involved in a merge or reallocation of studies, series, or images includes AI findings, a message displays informing you that the AI findings will be cleared and rescanned. A message also displays if the clear and rescan operation fails.

  • AI findings are cleared at the start of the merge or reallocation operation and the rescan is triggered at the end. If the operation is cancelled or interrupted in the middle (for example closing the browser window while the operation is in progress), the rescan may not be triggered. In that case, you can trigger a scan manually from the Worklist.

  • You cannot merge two studies that each include a non-AR report until you delete one report from one of the studies.
  • Two studies that each include a report cannot be merged until one report has been deleted.
  • If you want to delete a study and that study is locked by another user, change the status to Cancel and then change the status back to the original status to release the lock.
  • If you want to delete a study and that study is locked by another user, use the Unlock Study option in the Worklist or PowerJacket. See Changing the Study Status from the Worklist or Using PowerJacket Context Menu .

  • If IOCM is enabled, the annotations do not display when you merge studies, series, or images.

Prerequisites

You must have the Content Management privilege to access this tool through SWAT. Synapse logs all changes.

Steps

  1. Navigate to System > Utilities > Content Management.
  2. If necessary, click Split Screen to change the display to split pane.
  3. Open to All Studies in two separate panes.
  4. Search using the Query By Example (QBE) fields to locate the incorrect study (source).
Tip: Enter the Accession number to ensure it is the correct study.
  5. In the left pane, locate the source study (the study to be merged).
  6. In the right pane, locate the destination study (the study that will receive the merge).
  7. In the left pane, click, hold, and drag the source study to the destination study.

Results

Synapse transfers all the contents of the source study folder to the destination study folder. Synapse removes the source study folder (shell).

Advanced Reporting Results

For Advanced Reporting (AR) studies, Synapse moves the measurements and report data to the destination study.

Synapse moves the AR report only if the destination study does not have a report. Synapse does not move the measurements if the destination study is not an AR study.

Note:

Before merging two studies, you must close both the source and destination studies in Synapse.
