Adding a Collateral to a Vessel Diagram

Introduction

Use the Collateral tool to add a collateral to a vessel diagram. Collaterals should always be drawn in the direction of the blood flow. The blood flow begins with the originating point and ends with the terminating point.

Steps

  1. Click Collateral tool on the vessel diagram toolbar.
  2. Click the point of origin on an existing vessel for the collateral.
A red edit point displays to indicate the first point of the collateral.
  3. Click multiple times to add new points to the vessel path.
Synapse places red points on the vessel diagram with each click to show the length and position of the path that you are drawing.
  4. Click the end point on an existing vessel to complete the collateral.
  5. Click the Collateral tool or press the ESC key to turn off the Collateral tool.

Results

Collaterals display in purple and contain an arrowhead which indicates the direction of blood flow. Synapse adds a new segment representing the collateral to the Segments section of the properties panel, where you can enter specific information for the new collateral.

When you finish drawing the collateral, the collateral properties panel displays. Synapse applies a generic name to the new collateral. Example: Collateral1.

If you make anatomy changes to a vessel diagram that is part of a patient study, including the repositioning of segments and the addition and deletion of vessels, grafts and collaterals, Synapse includes those changes in the base diagram for any new studies for that patient.
