XDS Consumer Overview

Introduction

Note:

XDS Client/Consumer functionality is only supported in Chrome.

The XDS Consumer allows for the retrieval and display of records shared across a healthcare enterprise. Records can include any or all of the following:

  • DICOM images
  • PDF documents

XDS Consumer uses global patient IDs (along with demographic and other information) to access the available records for a patient. The local patient ID can be translated to the global patient ID in the affinity domain using PIX (Patient Identifier Cross-Referencing). XDS Consumer uses this information to query the XDS registry for a list of the patient's published records.

Note:

  • The date format for EN-US is MM-DD-YYYY.
  • The date format for all other languages is DD-MM-YYYY.

XDS Consumer Modes

XDS Consumer operates in two modes, synchronized and non-synchronized:

Note:

Synchronized mode is only available in Synapse 5.x and above.

  • In synchronized patient mode, XDS Consumer displays all of the records (documents) for the patient that you selected in Synapse.
    • The Synchronized Patient Mode displays when XDS Consumer is synchronized with Synapse.
    • Information for the patient you select in Synapse is automatically sent to XDS Consumer.
    • You cannot search for another patient in synchronized mode; information only displays for the patient you selected in Synapse.
    • The patient record list displays all of the records (documents) for the patient that you selected in Synapse.
  • In non-synchronized patient mode, you must first search for the patient to display their information.

    • The Non-synchronized Patient Mode displays when XDS Consumer is not synchronized with Synapse.
    • When you select and open a specific patient, the patient record list displays all records (documents) for that selected patient.
