Browser Considerations Overview

Introduction

Synapse supports Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. You might find some minor functionality differences based on the browser you are using. Third-party hardware and software might also respond differently, based on your environment. The following are some browser behaviors to be aware of.

Note:

White flashes can occur between the login page and the Worklist, or when launching web queries. To avoid white flashes, change your browser background page to a dark color.

Using Clipboard Capture

The clipboard capture options differ, depending on the following configurations:

Zero and Thin Client Support

Synapse 7.2 Zero and Thin Client supports native Edge Chromium and Google Chrome.

The Synapse 4 Thick Client supports Edge in IE Mode.

Edge in IE Mode is not supported by the Synapse 7 client. When running both clients on the same workstation, the following browser combinations should be used:

  • Google Chrome: For Synapse 7 Zero and Thin Client
  • Edge with IE Mode: For Synapse 4.4.4 Thick Client

Adding the FUJIFILM Synapse Extension to Chrome or Edge

Introduction

This extension is needed to ensure maximum support for browser window management for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. This plugin manages issues around window positioning, repositioning, focus, resizing, and more.

This extension is also required for Thin Component functionality, Synapse Print, and Synapse Hybrid.

Note:

  • Without the Synapse Extension, if you close the Viewer and PowerJacket, always refresh the browser before opening a subsequent study from any Worklist, or mismatches might occur.
  • Scenarios in which Synapse PACS automatically closes windows are not supported without the Synapse Extension.
  • If you use the Clinical Reporting Application (CRA) in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, you must add the Synapse Extension.

If you choose to run the Synapse Workstation installer (See Synapse Workstation. ), it configures both Chrome and Edge so the next time you open them, they download and install the FUJIFILM Synapse Extension, and request your permission to enable the extension.

The other way to obtain the extension is from the Google Store (for Chrome or Edge), the steps for which are below.

Note:

  • Sometimes, the first browser restart after workstation installation might not add the extension. Exiting and restarting the browser should correct this.
  • If you previously manually removed the FUJIFILM Synapse Extension from Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge in the Google Store, the browser added the Synapse Extension to its blocklist. Running the Synapse Workstation Ex installer again will NOT override the blocklist. To fix the blocklist, add the extension in the Google Store, then remove it, then add it again.
  • If you log into Synapse without the extension, a warning message displays. Follow the link in the dialog box to add the extension. (This is the same link as the one in the steps below.)

Steps

  1. Open your browser. Copy and paste the following URL into a window to open the FUJIFILM Synapse Extension page.

Note:

In Microsoft Edge, click Allow extensions from other stores in the banner at the top of the page, then click Allow in the dialog box.

  1. Click Add to Chrome.
  2. Click Add extension when the Add "FUJIFILM Synapse Extension"? dialog box displays.
  3. A message displays confirming that the extension was added. Click the X button to close the message without turning on sync.

Removing an Extension

The Chrome extension used by previous Synapse versions, the FUJIFILM Windows Positioning Plugin, will not function under Synapse 7.2.000. It is safe to remove it.

Removing Chrome Extensions

  1. On the Google Chrome toolbar, click Customize and control Google Chrome (three dots).
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click Extensions.
  4. Click Remove for the corresponding extension.
  5. Click Remove in the dialog box.

Removing Edge Extensions

  1. On the Microsoft Edge toolbar, click Settings and more (three dots).
  2. Select Extensions.
  3. Select Manage Extensions.
  4. Click Remove for the corresponding extension.
  5. Click Remove in the dialog box.
