Configuring Synapse for Hybrid Mode

Introduction

Use the Hybrid Mode option to maintain smooth scrolling and window level interactions in a low bandwidth environment. When you enable Hybrid Mode, Synapse caches images to your workstation providing smooth scrolling and interactive operations without delays.

When Hybrid Mode is enabled, you can delay the cine Auto-play function to allow adequate time to download an image by selecting the Delayed option for the Auto-play setting. For additional information see Configuring Cine Settings

Note:

  • Hybrid mode in Synapse versions 7.x or higher is not backward compatible with version 5.5 or earlier. Images will be rendered on the server.
  • If you disable Hybrid Mode, you will also turn off the Worklist subscription, and the Subscribe option will be grayed out in the Worklist submenu.
  • If you have multiple applications running or have multiple tabs open in the browser, the available memory may be impacted by the use of these resources.
  • If you select the Optimize Network Usage setting with Hybrid Mode, Hybrid Mode uses clinical PNG images. Clinical JPEG images will be used for images that are not cached on Hybrid Mode.
  • Hybrid Mode requires 5GB of available cache memory space on the configured hard drive.

The following features do not benefit from the use of Hybrid Mode:

  • Synapse 3D
  • MIP
  • MPR
  • IPSS presets, such as sharpening
  • Fusion

Prerequisites

You must have the latest version of Hybrid Mode Component installed on your workstation to use Hybrid Mode. See your System Administrator for more information.
